2014 Fall/Winter New York Fashion Week: The Recap

73d2d2995b3a291a6abd469a2023e74a.jpg

Fashion week is always an exciting time. It's when designers, editors and fashionistas all come together for the common love of fashion. Everyone eagerly anticipates the beautiful silhouettes, luxurious fabrics and colors that will be trending in the days ahead. Of the many collections shown during New York Fashion Week, here are the ones that left the biggest impression on us. J Crew is the perfect marriage between classic and modern. We love their genius mix of patterns, layers and color pallets. The reoccurring pairing of white and black in this season's collection has stood out to us along with the abundance of floral patterns.

e1e05fbed51de0c6c503f478cab84c7f Kate Spade is always a breath of fresh air with structured, sophisticated lines and girly whimsy. We are used to her designs living up to her slogan "live colorfully" being full of color and vivid brights, but we are loving this collection of neutrals that screams Audrey Hepburn. fe4b0e81de61ee1fc39bf29bbb9bd53f

Tory Burch always wows us with her simple, yet elegant designs. This season she incorporated a little medieval flare into her collection. We especially love her shirt dresses, over the knee boots and knee highs.

33d33aa49a3ded74cae6b533b8afd9b0

This season's Michael Kors collection falls nothing short of luxurious, dramatic, and romantic. The flowy fabrics, pleated skirts, and fur are perfection. We are happy to see that fur will be a trend that is not going away any time soon.

Rebecca Minkoff's designs are always cool, fashion forward, and city-chic. She prides herself in creating clothing that is stylish and statement worthy, yet wearable. She accomplishes her goal with this season's street-friendly metallics and edgy details.

Rebecca-Minkoff-FW-2014

NYFW never ceases to inspire its audience. Year after year designers wow us with new concepts and innovative designs. The fashion seen on the runways doesn't always align with Top Button's vision. In the midst of plunging necklines and rising hemlines, we are here to take designs and allow them to inspire us to find similar articles of clothing that are modest and wearable without compromising our values.

What were some of  your favorite collections from this season? Let us know in the comments below. We can't wait to hear from you!

Happy Styling,

Trendy Tuesday: Stark Black & White

Seasons come and go, and so do trends. But one thing that hasn't changed is the stark beauty of a colorless outfit. That sounds weird, but you know what we mean! The contrast between black and white creates a beautiful, modern-yet-timeless effect that can help fill out your wardrobe without too much work. Wearing all black and white can also be a great base or platform to wear other funky pieces. Have some crazy Kelly green sneakers you've been dying to wear? Use an all black and white outfit to make those super sneaks pop! Same goes for any out-there accessory, from jewelry to handbags, scarves to makeup! Wearing a black & white outfit is a great baseline, and is so, so easy to put together!

And did we mention, black and white can be rocked in every season? It's true.

So today, we don't have any specific piece for you to try - but more an encouragement to stand out in black and white! Here's some ideas to get you started!

Kate Hansen Warms Up for an Olympic Luge Race Dancing to Beyonce

kateh.jpg

  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi8RO0R0_ho

American Olympian Kate Hansen not only placed 10th in the luge competition at Sochi this past Tuesday, but she also has a passion to dance like no one's watching. This 21 year old athlete has become known for her pre race warm-up as she dances to none other than Beyonce! She explained that past injuries have made a typical warm-up difficult for her, and she has gained some serious attention for this comical and cute warm-up routine.  We say, who needs a reason to dance?!

Miss Hansen has competed in numerous competitions over the years winning Silver, Bronze and Gold in Championship events. Even though she did not receive a metal this year at the Olympics, she was a great sport. Hansen witnessed history Tuesday when her teammate, Erin Hamlin, won the first ever individual luge Olympic medal for the U.S. with a bronze-medal finish.

In an interview Hansen said, “The Olympic experience has been more than words,” “Just to be on the same platform as athletes I’ve looked up to for years, my entire life ... it’s an unbelievable feeling.”

She wins the Most Fun Competitor Award so far for the Sochi Olympics voted on by the Top Buttons team.  We might be biased.  She is after all, an American, a female, a young women who is clearly self-confident, passionate about what she believes in, tough as nails, and even supports her competitors.  So after watching this video in slow-mo a few times, we have learned some new dance moves.

And then we found this video on her personal website.  This girl makes you smile and she is FEARLESS…

Brooke Fraser's Folk-Pop Music & Style Makes Headlines

brooke.jpg

Singer-songwriter Brooke Fraser is well know for being involved in leading worship with Hillsong United around the world. Her involvement in the Hillsong church has been ongoing for the past 10 years. Though she's originally from New Zealand, Fraser has an awesome European style! We love the dress she wore when she walked the red carpet at the New Zealand Music Awards where she was being awarded the Edge Best Pop Album. Her recent hit single Something in the Water also won her the highest selling single. Along with her great style, Brooke Fraser has such great talent to share with the world. brook3

Brooke Fraser has numerous popular songs such as Scarlet, C.S. Lewis Song, Shadowfeet and of course Something in the Water. Her folk-pop sound and meaningful lyrics bring her music to a whole new level. She has performed alongside Hillsong United at conferences in the United States singing Desert Song, Lead me to the Cross, From the Inside Out and Beneath the Waters. We love her collection of clothing, from knee-length dresses with tights underneath to dress pants and a favored top. We think her style really compliments her gracefulness and confidence on stage singing.

Later this year, Brooke will be releasing a new album as well as begin a world-wide tour.

With Beauty, Brains, and a Handsome Man: Christina Gard Tells All

Screen-Shot-2014-02-12-at-12.25.13-PM.png

If you aren't in the mood for some mushy, gushy, faith-based romance, READ ON ANYWAY!  We find this young lady to be refreshing and strong in a way that all women can benefit from.  We live in a world were girls get major media attention for being controversial, provocative, and down right disrespectful. (Clearing throat… cough… Huffington Post)  At Top Buttons, our philosophy is to promote those who are trying to do right and love others as they also love themselves. We feel you will enjoy hearing many of the fun details which make this girl tick.  Grab a cup of coffee and have a seat in a comfy chair.  This is a must read for some Valentine's Inspiration. - Intro by Sarah Powers Christina Gard -- currently a professor in the Psych department at SEU -- is the perfect example of what it means to have beauty AND brains. Mrs. Gard is a great role model to girls globally because she is living proof that when you pursue your dreams and live for God, He'll take care of the rest -- including getting you the right man. From gutting fish, to winning Miss Alaska, to being a pastor, professor, and so much more, Christina Gard has done it all.

So Christina, tell us a little about yourself -- about your backstory and any formative experiences along the way. I was born and raised in Alaska. My Dad was a pastor, and summer camp was the highlight of every year. Every summer we spent a few weeks at Little Beaver Lake kids camp in Alaska. That’s where I found a lot of really consistent friends and really fell in love and found the relationship I had with Jesus.

What are some significant qualities/ facts about growing up in Alaska that affected your perception on life?

  • I spent Friday nights at home with my family. My parents would give us a topic, and we would have debates.
  • We did a lot of hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, but it was all free.  That is the life we lived in Alaska.
  • When I was 5, I flew from Alaska to NJ. It opened up the world to me. I saw a mall and got to see a movie. It was a big contrast from having no running water.
  • I was homeschooled for much of my upbringing, and my two sisters were my best friends.
  • I had the opportunity to do some private school, but I knew how to cut filet salmon before I ever learned how to put on make-up.
  • We would go to the food bank for food, but my parents always saved, saved, saved for travel experiences. My mom was concerned about me knowing what was in the outside world.
  • I was the youngest bank teller hired at the National Bank of Alaska, which really taught me a lot and forced me to grow up.

What was your college experience like? I visited Northwest and saw for the first time college students having fun and it didn’t involve drugs or alcohol and so I decided to go there. I just loved it, I started debate and had great friends. I ended up transferring a lot. When I moved to England, I fell in love with tea and my view of the world was changed. I was kind of the lone Christian. England was pretty spiritually dead in my opinion. People questioned everything. I studied theology and was taught that the Bible was a book. I realized my faith was not my parents. I had to develop & cultivate a relationship with the Lord on my own.

I transferred again and I went to AU and I fell in love with the city of DC.

I also spent a summer in Cambodia. That really showed me the power of missions and at that point I decided I would eventually make missions a part of my life.

For my last semester of undergrad, I went back to Northwest.

You moved around a lot! When did Andrew come into the picture? Five weeks before graduation, I met Andrew. At this point, I was really strong and really independent.  My father had always told me, “You will marry the one man that isn’t intimidated by you,” and on our first date Andrew said, “You don’t intimidate me.” It freaked me out. When I got home, I literally went right into my room and called my dad and told him.

Since you come from a close family, what was it like when you started dating Andrew? We dated all the way through graduation, which is when my family met him. Everyone flew in because I was speaking at the commencement. I handed Andrew an itinerary for the weekend, and he kept up. That weekend, he surprised me with Yankee tickets. I realized at that moment that he was a true leader. He knew what I needed even when I didn’t.

[blockquote]He’s the first man I ever dated. I dated a lot of boys, but he was the first man.[/blockquote]

Did Andrew pursue you? How did he treat you while you were dating? First date: He called me and asked me out. I remember how strong, confident, and sincere he was on the phone.

[blockquote]We went to Starbucks. I asked him about his relationship with God. A Starbucks date can be 5 minutes or 5 hours; ours was 5 hours.[/blockquote]

Day After First Date: Generally, the rule was not to call the next day. He called me that morning. This was when cell-phones first came out and I had a voice mail of him asking me to hang out again….And we hung out every day.

Second date: He took me to Coldstone and then opened the basketball gym for me and we played HORSE. While we were at Coldstone I quizzed him about the world. I was blown away at how smart he was.

During the relationship: He didn’t kiss me and there was no physical interaction until after we were engaged.

[blockquote]I’m the 4th generation in a line of pastors and I never met someone who loved God like Andrew did.[/blockquote]

Since you guys started dating so close to graduation, what happened after you graduated? We were together for 2 months, and then I moved back to Alaska and it was long distance from there. We were dating and engaged for 17 months total.

What did you do in the meantime? At that point my options were to apply for the Peace Corps, work with White Siberian tigers, travel with Holland America cruise lines, or compete for Miss America. I graduated in May 2004 and it was in June that I won Miss Alaska 2004.

Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.19.52 PM

How did competing and winning Miss Alaska affect your self-image? I had always struggled with insecurity. The thing I appreciated about the experience was how confident the women were. Every single one of them were pursuing a degree. Miss America is a Scholarship Organization, not just a pageant.

[blockquote]I remember walking in and looking around the room and thinking “Wow. Women can do anything.”[/blockquote]

For me, it helped pay my way through college and helped me develop confidence in a new way. Differences were celebrated. Everyone was beautiful in their own way. I didn’t have to look like Barbie. I just had to look like me.

Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.18.09 PMScreen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.17.51 PM

So what happened with you and Andrew after winning Miss Alaska? Well, I love that he was with me before I made Miss Alaska. I remember, I called him and told him I didn’t win and he said “I don’t believe you.”

When did you get married? On June 24, 2005 we got married in Jamaica. We had a destination wedding. I flew from Alaska to Miami and Andrew flew from Seattle to Miami and then we flew to Jamaica together. So hugging him in the airport was awkward having been apart for awhile. We met up with our families in Jamaica. We went kayaking & hiking and it was so much fun. Then, we honeymooned  there for the next couple weeks.

Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.17.43 PM  Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.17.25 PM

After being apart for so long, how was married life? When we got to our new home, he had me close my eyes and he picked me up and he carried me across the threshold of our new town home in DC. We didn’t have a dinner table. We ate our first meal sitting on the dining room floor. I realized no matter where I was or what I was doing, if I had him, I would be okay.

He was a pastor and I was working as a Crisis Intervention Specialist. I was on call 24-7. My clients had to get better or they were going to jail. After a while, he felt like we were suppose to move to Seattle and I remember resisting it. We moved from there to Puyallup, Washington. I remember I saying, “Life will never be better than it was in DC.” I even said the same thing when I moved from Washington to Florida, and now I think the same thing.

Being that you're very accomplished and goal-oriented, what have been all your different jobs throughout the years? 1. At, 12 years old, my first job at Espresso Moes as a barista. 2. Sandwich shop 3. Bank Teller for National Bank of Alaska 4. Legal Clerk for Trudell Bowen Lingenbrink Law Firm 5. Nanny for Mr. Lingenbrink (on weekends) 6. Department of Health as a Legislative Analyst 7. Cannery on the slime line gutting fish 8. Crisis Intervention Specialist for Institute … 9. Childrens pastor at Puyallup Foursquare Church 10. Miss Alaska with the Miss America organization 11. Professor –Northwest University 12. Children/ Family Therapist at Good Samaritan Behavioral Health 13. Director of Student Mentoring in Student Development at SEU 14. Professor 15. (Currently training to be a fitness instructor at LA Fitness, just for fun.)

Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.27.35 PM

What qualities does Andrew have that you think are really important to look for in a man? Love for Jesus;  Intellect; Respect for others; Passion; Integrity and character above all; Respect for me and how he handled me when no one else was around; He didn’t put me in compromising situations; Common interests; Attraction; Such a great sense of humor.

What are the top 3 things you two value in your marriage? 1. Our non-negotable is time with one another; nothing gets scheduled without us consulting the other. That requires honest communication. 2. Fun. -- We love having fun together. We love laughing. 3. Private time with the Lord and with one another. Praying together. Theres nothing more incredible than hearing what Andrew asks God for, for me. It’s just amazing.

What's the key to having an interesting relationship? In order to have an interesting marriage. You have to be interesting people. We both love time together, but we both love our time apart. Andrew loves golf. I love Pilates. We love having things we’re pursuing on our own. He loves that I don’t stop at any point in life.

What is one piece of advice you would give to young girls? (Something that you know now but you wish you knew then.) Put God above all else. Enjoy your time with your family first. You’ll never get those moments back with your parents and siblings when its just you guys. Enjoy that, treasure that. I don’t regret spending Friday nights with my family. Worry little about who likes you. More than likely you are not going to marry your 8th grade love.

Since Valentine's Day is coming up, how do you keep your marriage alive, and do you have Valentines Day plans? We always go out. Our favorite spot is the Melting Pot. We’re more into experiences than gifts. We’ve gone to Paris & rome, Mexico, Jamaica, Disney world. We love quality time, with a great meal and great conversation. We’re also really big on cards. We always give each other handwritten deep thoughtful notes. That’s really important to us.

Deep breath. Process.  Maybe your pics won't look as adorable as these two, but you can rest assured that God will give you the desires of your heart too as they line up with His will!

There you have it: life behind the scenes with Christina Gard -- a woman who even faced some very challenging life experiences. (Which, believe it or not, were not mentioned in our long but super fun interview with Christina.)  She ultimately pursued God and her dreams, and along the way God gave her a great love relationship that enables her to continue doing that.  She supports him, he supports her, they support each other.

Little Black Dress

edit2-e1392085876504.jpg

On a recent holiday in Hawaii I was invited to an event that would require dressy attire. I was excited at the invite, but hadn't  packed anything fancy. I had only a couple of days to find the right dress and accessories that would work. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a new outfit, since I had plenty of dresses at home, so I hit up my favorite bargain store- Forever 21! I was in search for a simple black dress. Black is always chic, and can be easily dressed up or down. After passing over several racks, my heart leapt when I saw a basic black dress for only $12.80! The dress fit great, and would work for the event. It was also an item I could actually wear on the rest of my Hawaiian getaway. With the right accessories I dressed the ensemble up! c950x609

Mixing high and low peices are key in making an outfit look expensive vs. cheap. I paired the bargain dress with a pair of earrings from Banana Republic, a gold and diamond bracelet from Macys, and some black patent leather Steve Madden shoes. A clutch always makes an outfit in my opinion. Since I didn't pack one on this trip, I improvised and used my Cynthia Rowley wallet! It's shape resembles a clutch so I am able to get a lot of use out of it.

The moral of the story is always be prepared! Pack a basic dress that can be dressed up or down on your trips. Accessories are key. Make sure you pack a versatile selection that will help make the most of your vacation attire.

Thrifty Thursday: Three Church Outfits on a Budget

Screen-Shot-2014-02-06-at-8.24.54-AM.png

[blockquote]It's always important to look your best and present yourself with class -- and that most certainly shouldn't change just because you're going to church. You don't have to wear a dress that goes down to your ankles or clunky penny-loafers to be presentable for church either. Check out these three different -- yet modest and cute -- outfits on a budget![/blockquote] (To see where we found each item of clothing for sale, click on the smaller pictures.)

[code]Screen Shot 2014-02-06 at 3.12.59 PM

[blockquote]Part of shopping on a budget and finding good deals means that you compare prices and weigh out your options. Do a Google shopping search to find items at different prices and stores that look alike. Then, check the ratings of the product and site. If you need more tips, feel free to email alexis@topbuttons.org.[/blockquote]

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

c950x784.jpg

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Whether you are in need of a gift for a friend, parent, or loved one we have 5 tried and true options for you to choose from. Let the gift giving begin! In our opinion you can't go wrong with a bouquet of flowers. Florals are pretty, cheery, and most importantly easy to find!  Flowers can be found at your local supermarket, floral shop, and even online. If you are up for a little diy action you can create your own customized floral arrangement and vase. Here is a cute option to get your creative wheels turning.

The next gift may seem obvious, but it is often forgotten. The CARD! It is the perfect companion to every gift. It is the icing on the cake that allows you to share a meaningful message with the recipient. Just like flowers, they are easy to find. You can grab one at the store. Or if you are a diy-er, you could make one like this or this at home.

Candles are an indulgent every girl loves. Add a bouquet of flowers to the picture and you have a match made in heaven! Diptyque candles are about as heavenly as you can get when it comes to candles. They do come with a hefty price tag however, more affordable options can be found at places like Target and TJ Max.

Jewelry can seem like an overwhelming option when looking for a gift. However, personalized jewelry takes the guesswork out and narrows down the selection. Nordstrom has an excellent inventory of monogrammed bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Etsy is also a  great option for finding personalized jewelry.

Nothing says Valentine’s day like candy! Just about everyone we know has a sweet tooth. Whether store bought or home made, you can’t go wrong with candy! Who wouldn't be happy to receive this or this for a gift?!

We hope we helped take the guesswork out of finding the perfect Valentine's Day gift. Keep it simple yet thoughtful.

Happy gift giving!

'Blown Away' by Carrie Underwood's Style

carrie3.jpg

After the hit live performance of Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music, she will once again appear in another popular show "Peter Pan Live" on NBC premiering later this year. This Grammy and award winning celebrity does not only have a spectacular voice, but she has also been on the front page of numerous magazines across the country. Just this last week she has partnered with the makeup brand Almay because she believes in celebrating our natural beauty. carrie1

Her style is flawless and we think she has excelled in every opportunity she has been given. She restrains from showing too much skin at her concerts around the world and she still pulls off her mixed rock country look. She likes to wear casual attire for many of her performances while she manages to look absolutely gorgeous at award ceremonies. Her confidence overrides the outfits she decides to wear on stage by staying modest in front of her millions of fans. In the midst of stardom she continues to exemplify great style that we adore. As she continues to make her mark on the iTunes top charts, we love how she continues to be herself as she starts a family with her husband Mike Fisher.

Meet Macey and her Modern-Chic Apparel

Screen-Shot-2014-01-29-at-8.08.41-PM.png

Meet Macey and her Modern-Chic Apparel! She's currently in college pursuing a degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies. Her charming personality is both fun-loving and personable. Macey currently  juggles several involvements between her college classes, maintaining friendships, and volunteering at church. She even serves as a Community Leader in her residence hall at college, meaning that her role is to help build community among her peers. What amazed the Top Buttons team is that she accomplishes all this and more with such poise and professionalism.

[divider_line]

For Macey's first outfit, she wore a plaid flannel top (purchased at Salvation Army for $3) and her favorite high-waisted black pants (purchased at Forever21 for $10).

Screen Shot 2014-01-29 at 8.08.02 PM

What's so great about this look is that Macey pulls together staple items and makes them her own! She wears her clothes, and doesn't allow her clothes to wear her. It's amazing how much confidence can make a difference.

[divider_line]

Macey's second outfit provides a completely different look and feel, but incorporates a lot of the same articles of clothing.

This is a really admirable quality, because most girls deal with the illusion of thinking, "I have NOTHING to wear," in the midst of staring at a full closet. While most of us here at TopButtons can admit to having said that, we all know we were mostly being dramatic. Instead of resorting to that thought, challenge yourself to rework old pieces with new ones and pair a variety of tops and accessories with the same basic pants and shoes. Your closet will seem to grow without breaking the bank.

Let's see how Macey did it:

Screen Shot 2014-01-29 at 8.09.40 PM

Macey wears a denim chambray that her sister gave her as a hand-me-down; a chunky gold necklace that she got from a closet exchange with a friend; and the same pants and shoes as her last outfit.

[blockquote]My favorite piece is the necklace. It dresses anything up. It was a tie between that and the shoes. They're just so comfy.[/blockquote]

Now that you've seen how Macey styled two outfits by incorporating a few of the same pieces, TopButtons encourages you to do the same with YOUR wardrobe and to let us know your results!

Trendy Tuesday: Smile-Worthy Shoes

Stiletto-Jetset-Chiara-Ferragni-Shoes.jpg

With winter wrapping up and spring emerging, it's time to put away those over-sized boots and break out some cute flats that will usher in the happiness and warmth of spring - starting with your toes! 555146_611202965561963_130156686_n

Adorable, right? Chiara Ferragni is a fashion blogger who has designed these funky mismatched shoes. Though each shoe has it's own design, together the pair add a fun and fresh detail that will bring any outfit to life.

Here's the catch - these adorable shoes cost a whopping $211 US dollars. Tears, I know. That was our initial reaction too. Luckily, this sweet trend has taken off and can be found all over the place (and on the cheap, too!)

If you've never heard of ModCloth, get right on out of town, because it is one of the most adorable online shopping sites in the world. Full of vintage and fun styles, ModCloth supplies us ladies with the perfect mix of modern & vintage attire! ModCloth also conveniently has a selection of flats that remind us of Chiara's - but for much less.

These DV8 flats are cute and colorful - and $45!

These Liliana loafers add a SUPER fun detail to everyday jeans and t-shirts - and at $38, your super power could be described as "super frugal"

Though much more simple than any Chiara flats out there, these adorable flats add the same fun of mismatched embroidery without being too crazy (hint hint: subtle Valentine's day reminder?) These simple navy blue flats are $40.

Whatever your style may be like, don't be afraid to let this fun new trend inspire you! (Do I smell a DIY in the air?) Whip out the glitter and scissors and make your own fun and sparkly flats - or splurge on a brand new pair from ModCloth!

Whatever you do, don't forget to stay trendy!

The Royal Blue Wardrobe of Kate Middleton

kate3.jpg

Kate Middleton celebrated her 32nd birthday this month and TopButtons had to point out how amazing she looks in blue. We noticed that she often wears this color and we think it looks fantastic against her skin complexion. We not only love her choice of color, but from short dresses to long dresses, she is able to pull off anything whether she is walking down the red carpet or running errands. We all remember the gorgeous Alexander McQueen wedding gown she wore that inspired other brides around the world. Ever since, her fashion has continually impressed us. Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, wears an Olympic Ring style necklace as she visits the National Portrait Gallery in London

We wanted to point out her incredible style because seems to take consider her influence and leadership role as she gets dressed in the morning. There can be some pressure that comes along with her title as the Duchess of Cambridge or Princess of the United Kingdom. The way she presents herself to the world is through modesty and confidence as she attends numerous events in front of millions.

We love the way she poises herself in front of paparazzi at different events as if they are not even there. She decided to spend her birthday this year quietly with her family instead of wandering out into the public eye. We admire her outlook on family and her classy chic wardrobe.

Maddy and Her Perfectly Polished Style

Screen-Shot-2014-01-24-at-6.11.51-PM.png

Maddy Lynott is currently a college Freshman. Her sense of style is just one of the many attributes that makes her so charismatic! Aside from dressing cute and original, Maddy dedicates much of her time to ministry opportunities by volunteering with children at a local community and even going on global missions trips! In fact, Tiffany (from our recent post Trends with Tiffany: A Classy and Sweet Style) and Maddy are both going to Zambia this summer! Maddy's love for God and love for people shines throughout everything she does.

Maddy's first look in the city was practically pulled right off Pinterest because it was so coordinated and put together.

She gave Top Buttons the scoop on where she bought all the items she's wearing, so we've done the web-hunting for you and have found similar essential pieces to accomplish a look like Maddy's!

[blockquote]I love items from Target because they are like a copycat of J.Crew (but a lot cheaper), which is where I get a lot of my style inspiration from.[/blockquote]

Maddy received this dress as a gift from a friend who originally purchased it at a consignment boutique, which offers such a one-of-a-kind and sentimental touch to this outfit.

[blockquote]The dress can easily be transformed into something casual or fancy with the adding of accessories and change of shoes. I love the hippie look of the lace and sleeves.[/blockquote]

NAACP Nominee Tamera Mowry-Housley's Style

Just recently the NAACP nominees were announced and will be awarding those with outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts. This February, the 45th annual awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles including nominees such as Nick Cannon, Kerry Washington and many more. In past years, out of all of the celebrities nominated for the event, Tamera Mowry-Hously stood out to us. Tamera Mowry-Housley. Photo Credit by Apega/ WENN

In the 43rd NAACP Awards ceremony, Tamera and her bubbly personality loved by so many, walked down the red carpet in a sleeveless silver gown made by Nicole Miller. Tamera's husband, Adam Housley escorted her down the red carpet in style. We are excited to see what she will wear this year at the awards ceremony. Becoming a new mother, her style is young, vibrant and energetic whether she is at home or walking down the red carpet.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation's 24th Annual "A Time For Heroes" Event - Arrivals

Tamera also made a more casual appearance at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation wearing a striped maxi dress looking confident event after people disagreed with her interracial marriage with Adam Housley. She is all smiles at the event displaying confidence and strength after the controversy. We love the added blazer to add a touch of gray to cover her shoulders. She knows how to mix and match to make her outfit come together perfectly. Overall, we think they look absolutely great together and we are excited to see what is to come as they begin their beautiful family.

Tiffany Hammer is a Pennsylvania-raised fashionista currently studying as a freshman at Southeastern University. Not only is she an amazing pianist, but her style is just as classy and sweet as her personality. Top Buttons had the pleasure of capturing two different outfits while Tiffany was out on the town with some friends. (Check back later this week for more details on their looks too!)

Trendy Tuesday: The Bomber Jacket

11B12EBLK_2_large.jpg

Though for some of us winter may carry on for a few more months, it's time to start thinking about transition pieces and springtime jackets! Yippee! We can almost dream of putting away our chic wool pea-coats and heading towards warmer days! Coming your way this spring - bomber jackets. 11B12EBLK_2_large (This Topshop number is fresh and fun for spring!)

But unlike WWII days, this retro look has stepped it up a notch. This spring look for bold patterns, fun prints, and exciting textures - lace, leather, satin, and everything in between!

Coming fresh off the runway from Marc Jacobs, Tracy Reese, and Alexander Wang, bomber jackets are ditching the old wool lining and picking up new sophistication with mesh detailing, perforated leather, and sweet silky prints - perfect for toning down a dressy outfit or adding a sporty (yet girly) vibe to daily jeans.

While we love designer pieces, and even these jackets found from J. Crew and Topshop (and who wouldn't?!) Who can afford the steep prices that come with them?

Both of these bomber jackets from Topshop (leopard found here, foil print found here).

Luckily, Forever 21 is forever there to save our wardrobes. With a plethora of adorable - and affordable - bomber jackets, this trend will not only keep you cute, but keep your wallet happy too!

This leopard print bomber is comparable to the topshop jacket seen above, but without the steep $160 price tag.

00108024-02

This fresh Geo-print bomber jacket is light enough to stay with you as the seasons change and the air gets warmer.

We're loving this fun twist on the bomber jacket - classic leather body, but cool, cute lace sleeves! Find it at Forever 21 - and bonus points for being under $40!

Stay trendy, ladies!

Our Best Picks from the Golden Globes

picstich.jpg

This year's 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards was a night to remember when it came to select celebrities dresses. Top Buttons was very excited to see what these stars were going to wear down the red carpet this time. Our team selected three of the most beautiful dresses that were worn at the event. Mila Kunis. Photo by Wally Skalij.

Our top favorite was a shimmering ombre Gucci dress worn by actress Mila Kunis. We can tell that she knows how to dress to impress at an event as important as this. This floor length dress attracted all eyes to Mila as she arrived at the awards.

Jennifer Lawrence. Photo by Jason Merritt.

Another one of our favorite dresses by designer Christian Dior was worn by well-known actress Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence was presented a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress in the famous motion picture "American Hustle". We loved how she graced the stage in her white gown looking flawless as she accepted her award.

Taissa Farmiga. Photo by Jordan Strauss.

Last but not least, Taissa Farmiga made her red carpet appearance in a knee length, lace Elie Saab dress. She accompanied her dress with Stuart Weitzman sandals giving it a more casual yet classy look for the awards. She was one of very few who decided to be different by wearing a short dress for the event.

Finding the Perfect Winter Jacket

IMG_2609.jpg

After living in the Northeast for 1 month of winter, I had purchased 4 winter coats and 1 jacket. This jacket was another fashion accident. In New York City, fashion inspiration is all around you. One day I was walking my normal route to work and saw this really beautiful girl who looked like she was on her way to her job. I saw her wearing this jacket. I politely tapped her on the shoulder (she probably thought I was trying to steal her purse). I asked her where she got her gorgeous jacket, and she sweetly said, "BCBG." My heart sank. I thought, "There is no way I can afford that. I was hoping she was going to say H&M!" IMG_2648

As soon as I got to work that day, I got on my computer and started to Google key words that might produce that jacket. I also scoured the BCBG website. Nothing to be found. Bummer. BUT THEN...

IMG_2649

I found it. Last season's merchandise on ebay. I have a love/hate relationship with ebay and it's sometimes a hit or miss. This was THE only one I could find that was an exact match. Here is a similar one if you just read this and your heart also sank.

A good coat/jacket is priceless. This one however came with a price that I had to quickly talk myself into. My review of this jacket is that it is extremely well made and comfortable, but only stands about 40 degree weather and wind. It is also an amazing rain coat.
