Summer is here, HOORAY! Summer is my favorite season for many reasons one of them being fashion, which is so light, beautiful, bright and breezy. For today's post, I would like to share a few summer trends that I am in love with already.
Looking to add a playful edge to your summer outfits? Try a graphic tee! They are incredibly versatile and add a fun twist to a variety of looks. Graphic t-shirts are not reserved for casual outfits alone, you can absolutely wear them with dressier pieces. Pairing them with a skirt looks classy and sophisticated. We especially love a skirt with a pattern, it adds depth and personality to an outfit.
Don't forget to accessorize! Graphic tees look ultra stylish paired with a statement necklace. Try opting for one with tassels, they are a huge trend right now. We especially love this one from Nordstrom.
One of the best things about a graphic t-shirt is that it's inexpensive and easy to find. So, if you're wanting to spruce up your summer wardrobe, picking up a graphic top is the perfect place to start!

We love pretty summer looks that are low-maintenance. Hair is probably best when kept as natural as possible since heat usually equals frizz! Minimal makeup is also a good idea. This season is the best time of the entire year to let your natural beauty shine and let those sun freckles make their grand appearance. Really all you need is a little powder and a few swipes of waterproof mascara.
We are all about fun accessories here at Top Buttons and love the idea of a few stackable bracelets to subtly dress up an outfit. Right now, we are obsessed with Cotton On's foundation bracelets. They're only $1-$2, which makes stacking them affordable, and best of all, 100% of the proceeds get donated to Cotton On's charity.
Muscle tees add a little edge to a look. Stay comfy and covered by throwing on a bandeau top when choosing a top with sides that dip slightly.
The casual take on denim that is super hot right now is a cute cuff at the bottom. Make sure your jeans are skinny enough so that the cuff is hugging the leg! Converse (Annie is rocking white Chuck Taylors) is a perfect comfortable throw-on sneaker that is fun and timeless.

The moto jacket was the hot ticket item to keep the chill off this past season. For many, it was a daily staple worn with anything and everything. However, with temperatures rising, it's time to find a lighter alternative that keeps us cool without sacrificing the edgy factor of the moto jacket. Meet the moto vest, the trendy sleeveless version of the moto jacket. It's lightweight and versatile enough to be a staple in your summer wardrobe. Layering always adds a wow factor to an outfit, this vest is perfect for the warmer months.
Like the moto jacket, this vest comes in a vast variety of colors, prints, and materials. We love chambray because it can basically be worn with anything. We're all about stocking our closets full of pieces that can be styled several different ways. For more vest inspriration and ways to wear them, click here and here.

This Hills and Laguna Beach star is known for being spotted on the streets wearing some of the hottest trends in the most put-together ways. We love Kristin Cavallari (who is now a mommy of two!) for her simple, classy style and the way she mixes trendy pieces with timeless pieces. She provides wearable looks that are oh-so-cute and oh-so-easy to copy!
Move over, little black dress! The LWD is the hottest classic look for this summer. A white dress can be dressed up or down (just like a black dress) and can be mixed with almost any piece. We love the way Kristin wore her white maxi dress with a classic denim jacket.
Drapey pants are making a huge comeback this season. They're adorable, versatile, comfortable (perfect for summer traveling), and come in an endless array of patterns. What's not to love? Kristin dresses her drapey pants up with low heels and a casual white top which matches the pattern in her pants. We also love the idea of going all-out comfortable and pairing them with Birkenstock-style sandals (a hot summer item).
Lastly, Kristin was spotted wearing a simple, yet stunning outfit while shopping on the streets. Her distressed denim adds a casual flair to her leather shoes and black top, adding a subtle edge to her sleek look.
It’s no secret that we have a deep love for bohemian style at Top Buttons. We always enjoy highlighting an outfit that’s on point whenever we spot one. It's always refreshing to see how people take a popular style and truly make it their own. There are many expressions of boho style, from ultra 70's to romantic-chic. What stands out with Katy’s outfit is that it has a distinct classy, feminine vibe to it. She’s incorporated pearl earrings into her look which adds a classic, refined feel to her outfit.
Kimono’s are more popular than ever this season. This cream kimono with lace and fringe detail is a smart investment as it is a neutral and can be worn with several different pieces in your wardrobe.
Katy’s necklace is the epitome of boho chic and her Alex and Ani bangles add a fun, care-free flare to her overall look.

Need some ideas on how to dress for the fourth of July without being too over the top? No need to buy a shirt with a flag on it, just accessorize with some patriotic colors. Incorporating red, white, or blue into your outfit through accessories such as a purse, necklace, or even makeup is a subtle way to show your holiday spirit.
We have five great options for you right here!
Shopping for the perfect summer wardrobe is very important, but in many places summer is such a short season that it comes and goes before we even get to wear our favorite pieces. Included in this article are a few tips that will help you make purchases that are both affordable and versatile enough to wear for seasons to come.
- Tip #1: Shop the clearance rack at stores like Target. When there's a shift of seasons, what's left from last season goes on sale. Specifically look for DRESSES! Practically any dress can be fashioned in the summertime. Alexis found these on the 70% off rack, and depending on the occasion she can find somewhere to wear each of these dresses.
- Tip #2: Buy a pair of nude sandal wedges! They are a must-have!! Although Alexis found the ones below brand new at Goodwill, they were originally from Target! The boots were an added bonus find, and were so cheap because they were purchased in the off season. Sometimes a purchase now can save you money in the long-run. (Note: Only buy thrifted shoes if they are new or gently used.)
- Tip #3: One-piece swimsuits are cheaper, more comfortable, and provide more coverage! Instead of trying to buy two separate pieces with the added cost of each piece, why not pay one price? Plus, when you're out and about with friends at the pool or beach, you won't have to worry about adjusting your suit. Alexis found a red halter one-piece with ruffles across the bust for $15 at Bealls Outlet. Other affordable one-piece suits can be found at Target, H&M, and even Charlotte Russe.
- Tip #4: Buy thrifted florals!! They will surely be in style for summer, and pop when you where them in the fall. If you want to make a statement, raid the racks of your local thrift store for some floral finds. Floral print is one of those trends that never fades, so there's always lots of options at the thrift store, PLUS you'll be sure to get something that NO ONE else has. [divider_line]
We hope you enjoyed these tips, and we look forward to seeing your rock your summer style on a budget! From comfy dresses, to shoe essentials, to modest swimwear, and even to floral prints - there's so many ways to put together an affordable summer wardrobe that will carry into next season.
