Hearts Full After Serve Day

On April 14, the Top Buttons boutique in Winter Haven closed its doors to the public and opened its heart to young women from local partner organizations. What unfolded that day was far more than a shopping experience—it was a full-circle moment of transformation, care, and empowerment.

Each participant was welcomed with personalized attention, starting with a one-on-one styling session. Every young woman was thoughtfully paired with her own stylist to ensure she found pieces that not only fit her body but also her personality, confidence, and future goals.

Each girl received more than $250 worth of essential items, including:

  • Brand-new undergarments

  • Black closed-toe shoes

  • Professional attire

  • A Top Buttons “I Am Not an Object” T-shirt

  • Curated thrifted outfits and accessories

  • Full hygiene bags

But it didn’t stop there.

Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and partners, the day also included complimentary professional services:

  • Haircuts, hair styling, and makeup applications

  • A delicious spread of food and refreshments

  • Portrait sessions with professional photographer Katie Logan

  • Certified undergarment fittings from Dillard’s representatives Debbie and Shelby of Wacoal

  • A resource table from Polk State College with representatives Charity Garcia and Dr. Laquieria Nottage

Our beauty team, including Dacia Barnes (Glam Lab Studios), Rochelle Mills (Serenity by Rochelle), Marie Garcia-Gilles (Marie’s Studio), Amber Coomes (Shear Magnolia Hair), and Stefanie Pfantz (Hair State of Mind by Stefanie), worked tirelessly to pamper and uplift every guest.

Meals and treats were generously donated by Lucille’s American Café, Honeycomb Bakery, and El Olivo Mexican Restaurant. Freedom Tour also provided additional hygiene items to make sure every young woman left with everything she needed.

This all-day Serve Project was made possible through generous donors, including the Leland Bryan Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation, whose support of our Wearing Confidence Program allowed this day of impact to happen.

Throughout the day, volunteers witnessed firsthand the transformation taking place in real time. Many girls left looking—and feeling—like new versions of themselves:

“I have never had so much attention before or made to feel so loved.”

“I can now see the beauty in myself everyone talks about. I just hadn’t seen it before.”

“I feel like a different person. To feel valued in this way was a unique game changer for confidence, empowerment, and perhaps most importantly, effective change.”

One chaperone summed it up beautifully:

“One of the girls I brought probably experienced more love today than she has in her entire life.”

These words are the reason we do what we do.

Top Buttons is more than just a boutique—it’s a place where hope, dignity, and confidence are restored. And while we offer personal boutique sessions year-round, Serve Days like this one are a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together with a single mission: to pour into the next generation of young women.

Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and partnered with us.

With full hearts,
The Top Buttons Team
